Martha Stewart’s healthy breakfast on-the-go? Her home-made granola bar

Granola is one of our breakfast favourites, but whether you team it with yoghurt, milk, or a milk-alike substitute, you do really need to be sitting at the table or the breakfast bar to enjoy it. 

That was the case for us, anyway, but now we’ve discovered a way to take a granola breakfast with us when we leave the house. We were inspired by America’s most famous homemaker, Martha Stewart, who shared her granola bark on Insta. 

Martha adds a protein boost to her crunchy granola with seeds and nuts. Once cooked, the delicious breakfast can be simply broken into pieces you can take with you when you leave the house.

We made takeout granola like Martha Stewart’s – here’s what you will need for yours:


  • 170g oats
  • 300g mixed nuts and seeds
  • 50g coconut shavings
  • 95g coconut oil
  • 3 tbsp honey
  • Pinch of salt
  • White of 1 egg


1. Preheat the oven to 170ºC/325ºF/GM3. 

2. Put the oats into a large mixing bowl. Chop up any large nuts, then add all the nuts and seeds of your choice, plus coconut shavings.

3. Put the coconut oil in a pan over a low heat along with the honey. Stir until they’re both thoroughly melted.

4. Add the oil and honey to the oat mixture along with a pinch of salt, and stir to combine. Want to sweeten it a little more? We love adding just a few sultanas and dried cranberries to our mix.

5. Best the egg white to a froth using a whisk then add it into the oat mixture and stir to coat.

6. Line a baking tray with greaseproof paper and spread the mixture out well. Cook in the oven for 30 minutes until golden. Martha Stewart’s is quite thin as a bark – we like ours a little thicker. You’ll want to experiment to get yours just how you like it.

7. Remove the granola from the oven and leave to cool. It will become crisp as it does so. Once it’s cooled, break into take-with-you size chunks, and store in an airtight container to store in the meantime.
