Everett ends Healthy Streets traffic closure, cars can return

EVERETT — Several road segments closed to most vehicle traffic since mid-July are back to the domain of the motorized today.

The city’s Healthy Streets program blocked off through traffic on stretches of Commercial Avenue, Hoyt Avenue, and Silver Lake Road.

Initially, the city planned to keep it in place until Snohomish County entered phase four of the state’s COVID-19 guidelines to resume public activities. But Gov. Jay Inslee halted counties from progressing in phases as coronavirus cases jumped.

City staff returned the roads to vehicles in full because of shorter, wetter days making road use more hazardous, according to a news release.
